I know a little bit about different kinds of drugs due to some law enforcement training I’ve had but after seeing National Geographic’s special on methamphetamines, it became instantly clear to me that this is the most frightening controlled substance I’ve ever seen.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Geographic: World’s Most Dangerous Drug! Click Here

On the streets it is referred to as Crystal, Ice, and Crank. Methamphetamines are viciously addictive and provide the hyperactivity effects of Cocaine along with the delusional effects of LSD. As opposed to getting a short `high’ from other drugs, this one will keep users pumped up from 6 to 12 hours and create feelings of paranoia, invulnerability, increased strength, euphoria, and may cause some to react in a violent fashion. As for health concerns, it rots the teeth, suppresses the appetite, induces insomnia, and causes brain damage among other things. Its ease of use makes it even more insidious as it can be swallowed, snorted, injected, or smoked and it is cheap to buy or can be easily manufactured by almost anyone.

Methamphetamines can be found in virtually every community from the smallest towns to the largest cities and it radiates through all walks of life from the lowest to highest social classes. It is estimated that there are 26 million worldwide users of this drug. When law enforcement in the United States began to make a concerted effort to eliminate methamphetamine labs, supply then began to come from Mexico using routes already established by Cocaine Cartels.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Geographic: World’s Most Dangerous Drug! Click Here

`The World’s Most Dangerous Drug’ is only 50 minutes long but this is more than enough time to fully realize the shocking and devastating effects of methamphetamines. There are some graphic photos and a few disturbing video clips but they are necessary elements in complimenting and reinforcing the main message of this program. National Geographic has made a decent documentary here, in my opinion, and whether viewers want to watch this for educational purposes or just out of curiosity perhaps, I recommend it to everyone.

This was a very educational production with considerable first hand footage and field reporting. That’s what we expect from National Geographic and that’s what we get here. The photo comparisons of the premature aging of meth users–”Faces of Meth”–was as depressing as it was compelling. The side effects of this drug are absolutely horrific, and the parts about “meth mouth” are tough to watch. You’ll also see a side of Thailand you never knew existed. Before viewing this, I would have never previously thought one drug was more dangerous than any other but I was wrong.

Never say movies do not affect children’s lives, for bad or the good. This one set many of us on the path to becoming U. S. Navy Frogmen then SEALs. I will treasure this DVD.

John Carl Roat

To those of us who share the collective title of “boomers” (not to be confused with certain nuclear submarine types) , there are certain movies out there in the DVD marketplace now that bring back fond memories. In the early 1960s, television was coming out of a period when most of what was shown..movie-wise…were cinematic studio “oldies” shown on local “late shows”. “early shows”, “shock theatres”, etc. This is where we got introductions to Crosby & Hope, Karloff, Lugosi, King Kong, the Duke, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, the “Three Mesquiteers”, Errol Flynn, and many others.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Frogmen! Click Here

As these new 60s got underway, though, something new and exciting began on the NBC network. The Peacock crowd (with their new toy , color television) cranked up a new tv show…”Saturday Night At the Movies”…shown every Saturday night (natch)at 9:00 p.m. EST (or DST in summer). Verbally hosted by Donald Rickles (NOT to be confused with comedian DON Rickles), “Saturday Night At The Movies” was a special arrangement between NBC and 20th Century Fox Film Corporation to show recent quality movie releases (10 years old or less)…many in (surprise) Color!…on prime time each week.

This show quickly became a solid hit and inspired many imitators (ABC launched a “Sunday Night Movie” shortly thereafter in a deal with United Artists). On Saturday night one now got a dose of more recent cinematic fare (and much better image quality) than we’d been previously used to. And, oh, what we got to see!!!! “Titanic” (Webb & Stanwycke), “THe Seven Year Itch” (Monroe & Ewell), “Niagra” (Monroe),

The Day the Earth Stood Still” (Rennie & Neal”), “No Highway In the Sky” (James Stewart), “Prince Valiant” (Wagner), “The Hunters” (Mitchum, Egan, & Wagner), “The Enemy Below” (Mitchum & Jurgens), and on and on: “The Desert Fox”, “The Desert Rats”, “Cheaper By the Dozen”, “How To Marry A Millionaire”,

“Halls of Montezuma”, “Beneath the 12-Mile Reef”. “Red Skies of Montana”, etc.

And, among these, “The Frogmen”.

And seeing it again has been a treat, because it is a wonderful movie. Reminds one of how good they USED to make them (before they were “gimmicked up” to be on-screen video games for

no-brain adolescents). There is action and excitement a’plenty here, along with a good BELIEVABLE story (how rare is THAT nowadays? “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”???) and some GREAT acting performances….Richard Widmark and Dana Andrews in particular.

Widmark (the original “edgy” actor….LONG before Nick Cage) turns in yet another of his fabulous performances as the new CO of UDT Team 4 in the South Pacific, late in the war. As usual Widmark operates on all acting cylinders here…he works with vocal timing and perfect dialog delivery, dead-on body language and mannerisms, and couldn’t-be-better eyework…proof once again that this great star-yet-not-a-superstar was one of Hollywood’s hands-down best actors (Check out “Halls of Montezuma” or “Madigan”, among other roles). Widmark does not play a cardboard hero here. He is a man plagued with flaws and doubts…yet a good, brave man. Just a complicated one.

And, good as Widmark’s performance is, Dana Andrews stands up to equal it as Widmark’s nemesis. Andrews plays a Chief Petty Officer in Team 4 who is like oil to Widmark’s water, and who, with dogged resentment to Widmark’s “taking the place” of Team 4’s lately-killed former commander, won’t “cut the new guy any slack” and keeps resentment stirred up against Widmark by all the enlisted team members. The war of acceptance or non-aceptance between the new C.O. and “the guys” lies at the heart of the movie. And this is a “war” well played throughout.

Jeffrey Hunter privides strong backup here. as does Gary Merrill (Captain of the UDT mission ship), and a group of good character actors (some, like Jack Warden and a couple of others, who would become much more high profile later on).

Biggest mystery about “The Frogmen” concerns Robert Wagner.

He is always listed as “being there”, and is named PROMINENTLY in the the credits….yet he is barely there at all! He cannot have any more than 45 seconds screen time…if THAT!!! He seems to play a junior bridge officer (when seen) named “Ensign Franklin”, who, recognizable AS a young Robert Wagner as he stands in proximity to Gary Merrill in two long shots of the bridge, does NOTHING but stand there. On one other scene, for about a 5-second run (tops…if THAT) he is called on by Merril to “Mr. Franklin, lower a boat”. To which order Wagner delivers (near as I can tell), his only three lines in the movie: “Aye aye, sir!”.

That little peculiarity apart, everything else about this film works. Co-operation by the Navy helped produce a “ton” of informative UDT action scenes: the viewer is shown the operations of the departure and pick-up boats, the sling-catching of the frogmen that retrieves them out the water into a rubber raft attached to the pick-up boat…actual scouting of beach traps and the mining of same with stachel demo charges…the planting of a “Welcome to the Beach” sign as a rag on the marines (based on a real WWII practice)…and a full scale harbor penetration in dry suits and scuba at the film’s end to blow up Japanese submarine pens. The producers (and Navy)

“fudge” this a little bit by having the team go in wearing 1950s era aqualungs, regulators, and hoses (rather than the real WWII style rebreathers they would really have used), but this might have been done for some security reason (hard to tell). No matter, the scenes work. That’s what really counts.

All ends well here…just the way you want it to. All team conflicts aren’t shown to have been “ironed out” completely, but enough evidence is there to show that a corner has been turned in team relations with UDT 4 to suggest the old guys and the new guy might just be headed for some hard-won mutual acceptance after all.

Again, good movie. Well worth watching and in glorious black and white .

With this out, and “Halls of Montezuma” (another Widmark winner), makes you hope Fox puts out “Red Skies of Montana”, the most exciting smoke jumper/forest fire movie ever put to film. Also wouldn’t hurt to see the OTHER big FROGMAN movie either: Dan Dailey as the “Underwater Warrior”.

Churchill’s granddaughter, Celia Sandys, takes us on an inspiring, well-produced travel log-type documentary as she visits some of the places around the world her grandfather traveled to throughout his life. I’ve studied the achievements of this amazing leader for years now, yet I learned many new and interesting facts previously unknown to me as a result of this program. Even the background musical soundtrack was outstanding.

It would be well worth devoting three hours of your viewing time to learn about this Titan of world leadership. After seeing this wonderful program, I couldn’t help but think how desperately the present world needs visionary statesmen of Churchill’s caliber.

Let us all be grateful for the foresighted statesmanship of this remarkable man - and learn from the example he set in this area. The lessons gleaned are as applicable and relevant now as they were then, and even more so as we face the daunting challenges of the 21st century.

Just saw on PBS and was awed by the beauty of this story. It is not only a great travelogue, but a beautiful tribute to perhaps the greatest leader of the 20th Century.

This DVD production of the David and Goliath story has accomplished exactly what I had hoped for my 3yr old son: an interest in learning about the Lord and His involvement in the lives of those who trust Him. My son often recites (in surprising detail) various scenes from the tale. One of my fellow brothers in Christ calls my son “The Little Preacher” because my son enjoys capturing the attention of those around him so he can retell the story of David and Goliath. I understand some reviewing this telling of the story may prefer stricter adherence to various nuances and literary exactness from Scripture - I can appreciate that as I am a literal believer of Scripture. There is never a perfect retelling of any Biblical story that will appeal to everyone’s preference. As already mentioned, this achieved what I had hoped for my son: help him develop an interest in learning about the Lord and building a faith in the Lord.

You can’t go wrong with this when the price is so low. The animation quality is like that typically seen in basic Saturday morning cartoons, which is good enough for kids. What I like is that all the videos in this series give all the important details of the story, rather than giving a shallow, watered-down version as is usually the case in children’s stories. These will entertain preschoolers up through junior high and the script is very closely based on the scriptural account. The only reason I didn’t give this series a 5 is that each video has a hokey song that could definitely have been left out, but for such a low price and good script, I can overlook that.

There are several important inadequacies you should know about this set before you buy:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Trek: The Next Generation - Complete Series! Click Here

1) The discs are in cheap, brittle trays — easily subject to breakage — rather than in well-built cases.

2) These trays are not labeled, and amazingly, there is no insert describing — or even listing — the episodes, or which discs they are on. Episode titles are printed on the disc labels, but that’s all the info you get, so after spending $300, a buyer has to flip through the 49 discs like file cards, to find the episode s/he wants.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Trek: The Next Generation - Complete Series! Click Here

3) The discs are stuck into three unweildy clumps — of either eight or nine trays, each — that are held together by inexpensive adhesive tape. This tape seems likely to decay, and the result will be 26 individual, unlabled trays scattered around your living room. (Most trays have two discs).

4) The tray configuration leaves some discs uncovered, unless the whole awkward mess is stored together…a problem which will get worse when the trays inevitably separate.

The lone advantage is the bonus disc. Most of the features on the disc appear to have been meant for, and for some reason never made it onto, the original releases of seasons 4 - 7. That doesn’t mean they’re not worth watching; some of them are quite good. Of the three new features, the best offers interviews with several of the series’ writers and producers. (However, it only tangentally deals with its supposed subject — introduced by John DeLancie — about Star Trek’s cultural impact.) Less successful is the roundtable of visual effects wizards; it has interesting moments, but it did not explain enough for a layman, nor did it go into enough detail for an expert. The Will Wheaton-hosted “Legacy” looks at how Star Trek ideas have shown up at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but it’s pretty vapid (not Wheaton’s fault).

To be honest, I’m torn. I’m glad to have the bonus disc (the features on Q and Lwaxana were touching) but part of me wishes I’d purchased the previously released conglomeration of individual seasons, “Star Trek The Next Generation - The Complete Seasons 1-7″. The price of that set has decreased to compete with this new, and somewhat inconsiderate, release…and the packaging of the old set is far easier to deal with.

This TV series is excellent as many reviewers will tell you. I have the “silver box” set of all seven seasons, so I was curious what this new set had that was different. Per my review of the details at www.startrek.com the only differences are: (1)the new green slimmer packaging for the 7 seasons, and (2)one more disk (#49) with new features. All the other disks #1-48 are the same as the “silver” boxes—ie. all the episodes and all the same extra features for each season. This new set is still fullscreen and has the same audio options. It is not HD as some may have hoped. Therefore, if you already have the 7 seasons, at least for me, it makes no sense to buy this set just to get one extra disk!

Last year I had the opportunity to watch Queer As Folk through my dvd subscription. It took me all of half an episode to be hooked on this heartbreaking, funny, dramatic, and serious look at gay life in Pittsburgh among a small group of close friends. I won’t try to rehash five seasons worth of this show in a review, but I will say this: This show was way ahead of its time. Derived from the British series of the same name, it served as a model for American shows when the only gay characters on TV were Will and Jack and Ellen. Queer as Folk demonstrated that America was ready to have a honest potrayal of gay and lesbian life and love onscreen.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Queer as Folk - The Final Season! Click Here

Where this show sparkles is in its dealing with life, love, relationships, drug addiction, the struggles of gay teens and coming out, sex, dating, and discrimination against gays and lesbians. The acting is superb, showcased by Hal Sparks, Gale Howard, Randy Harrison, and Sharon Gless among others, and the cast developed their characters for the last 5 years, making them seem at times more real than not. Is it exaggerated at times? Yes, just as a show like Sex and the City is, but Queer As Folk is more heartfelt and emotional than that show could ever be. QAF was also never afraid to tell a dark or painful story, reminding everyone that life is not always wonderful.

The box set extras for the last are quite good, with lots of commentaries, character and actor bios, deleted scenes, and outtakes. The DVD set releases May 30. The final season is only 13 episodes, but the show manages to wrap the series up in a way satisfying to the fans, with an ending they have been hoping for since the first episode of Season 1.[...] Enjoy the final season of this great series. Highly Recommended.

QUEER AS FOLK is still one of the most amazing TV Shows ever and is a landmark as the show for the new millennium. This New Queer As Folk Season 5 DVD Box Set has all 13 episodes of the fifth and final season. Queer As Folk is destined to be one of the most controversial and bravest TV shows of its time. The BOX SET includes Bonus features such as: Filmographies, Rosie O’Donnell diary, wrap party reel, deleted scenes, photo gallery, and a Music video of Cyndi Laupers Shine. I have seen all 13 episodes of the final season 5 and it is another great and very emotional season. I am still amazed at how honest this show is on dealing with gay life. Queer As Folk is about the life of a group of gay guys and a lesbian couple living in Pittsburgh. Queer As Folk makes no apologies and thats what is so great about this series. From the graphic sex scenes to the drama of dealing with the prejudice that still haunts America, this show is so brave and I give Showtime a big thumbs up for having the balls to take on such a big risk as Queer As Folk. This show has some issues that are far more real for some than others. This is not a show just for gay people, but for ALL people. It deals with human emotion and thats something that we can all relate to whether we be straight, gay, bisexual, black, white, brown or in between. Queer As Folk has opened the doors for mainstream gay movies like Brokeback Mountain (which received 8 Academy Award Nominations and won 3) and Transamerica. With this season being the final season of Queer As Folk I encourage you all to enjoy this great show because very few shows can touch your heart yet push the limit as far as this show has. I encourage anyone who has a open mind and a open heart to BUY this amazing DVD collection as it will inspire you and if nothing else open your mind to a lifestyle not as uncommon as you may think. Watch more than one episode before you judge this amazing series. I would also highly recommend Queer As Folk Season 1, 2, 3 and 4.

One Quick note: The packaging for season 5 is different and not as good as the first 3 seasons, but it is a space saver and so much better than the horrible packaging of season 4.

I have read the negative and positive reviews of this film, especially noting the numerous complaints about historical accuracy. But considering the era from which this story is created, and the various possibilities regarding exact time and place of events, (if they ever occurred at all), I think the film is a truly magnificent, thought-provoking piece about King Arthur.

Buy,Download, Or Stream King Arthur - The Director’s Cut! Click Here

Bringing in the aspect of the Sarmatians was long overdue in the Arthurian arena. Although various historians may argue the point, much evidence does point to the use of stirrups by about 8000 Sarmatian cavalry in the Roman army as early as 175 AD. With the commonly held belief that the stirrup was not introduced until many centuries later, I thought it a bold move for the movie makers to incorporate this into the film as well. It seemed to be one of the most commonly noted ‘discrepancies’ by reviewers, but I disagree - it is very accurate.

If you have watched only the PG13 version of this film, by all means, please watch not only the Director’s Cut version, but take the time to also watch/listen to Antoine Fuqua’s narrative over the film. His narration explains a lot, especially about how they had to change things drastically to make the mandated PG 13 rating. His explanation regarding his version of Lancelot and Guinevere is quite a statement as well.

Buy,Download, Or Stream King Arthur - The Director’s Cut! Click Here

The alternate ending was quite dark, or perhaps even depressing, in a way. I don’t know which ending is more suitable, and actually would have liked to have seen perhaps a different ending altogether, just don’t know what that would have been.

I thought the actors were incredible; the battle scenes (director cut) some of the only such scenes I’ve ever watched that let you identify the main characters’ roles during the fighting; the photography was the best I have ever seen; the music illustrated and enhanced; and this movie left you wanting to see more when it was over.

There was no dwelling on use of special effects for blood and gore, or rediculous feats of super-power athletics, or campy remarks that would bring you immediately back to your own century. The horses were not constantly being tripped during battle scenes, either. All these were a welcome change from so many movies of today.

Above all, it passed the real test of a great movie - it left you with ‘a feeling’ after it was over.

In short, I loved it. Antoine Fuqua, you are a genius.

The movie is pretty good BUT watch the directors cut only, however, historically and geographically it’s a bit awry.

YES there was a Romano-British warlord called Artorius Castus, YES 4000 Sarmatian heavy cavalry were sent to northern Britannia around 180 AD from southern Russia, it was part of a peace deal between Marcus Aurelius and the Sarmatians. YES the sword religon was a Scythio-Sarmatian ritual of the sacred sword, blood, plunging it into the earth etc

However most of their desendents by the 450’s AD (when the movie is set) when the romans left britain would have been native british, and half were thought to have left to fight with Constantine in Europe.

NO they wouldn’t have worn armour as in the film. The Picts were ORIGINAL peoples of northern britain (Scotti were immigrants from Dal Ria in North Ireland). They may have worn blue (Woad) body paint as modern research has suggested it had antiseptic properties to protect against wounds, they did use composite bows and crossbows. The romans invited in the Saxons as mercenaries against the Irish, Scots, Welsh (no such term as Celt then! thats an 18th century invention) and other Saxon raiders. They rebelled when they weren’t paid and took over southern britain, brought they’re families over and the rest is history (evenually to become Aenglaland…England). One of the biggest mistakes in the film though is that all the romano-british v saxon fighting took place in southern britain, not around Hadrian’s Wall, and the final battle of Baden Hill is thought to be in south-western england.

But if you’re not too bothered by that it’s not bad, particulary the less sanitised Directors Cut version with the blood restored!

If you’re interested check out the book “Arthur the Dragon King by Howard Reid” for a good comprehensive historical account.

Despite some implausible storylines, cornball humor, and over-the-top melodrama, MIAMI VICE was the SEMINAL TV Cop Show of The 80s Me Decade. No Cop Show before it had dealt with the realities of drugs, power, corruption, and money in Multi-cultural America the way this show did. And it was FUN to watch! Created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by famed movie director Michael Mann.

Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett, Phillip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs, and Edward James Olmos as the stoic Lt. Martin Castillo, were perfect in their respective roles. If they were one thing; THEY WERE COPS! The rest of the supporting cast fit in well. As well as providing comic relief to the more serious themes of evil, vice, and crime.

Jan Hammer created one of the most recognizable themes in all of Television History as well as composing background music for nearly every episode of it’s five year run. (Jan Hammer dropped out of the series towards the end. Tim Truman was chosen by Michael Mann to compose some great music for the final 22 episodes.)

Seasons Four and Five are considered the years that MIAMI VICE “jumped the shark.” If you’re a fan, you know where you stand. I love them all. Even the hilarious THE BIG THAW from Season Four, with it’s cryogenically frozen Reggae Star, is TOPS in my book. Fans hate this epsiode. It’s one of the episodes I remember vividly from the 80s and it’s a scream!

Tight and loose fitting pastel fashions. 80s New Wave, Pop, Top 40, and Reggae provided some of the cinematic background Music Video sequences for a brand new MTV Generation. Fast exotic cars, like Ferraris and Lamborghinis. They too, were characters in the show. Fast exotic car chases. Wealthy well-dressed eccentric cocaine and heroin dealers. The Miami Club Scene. Beautiful modern luxury dream homes. Fast Cigarette boats and luxury yachts. Brutal and blazing police shootouts. Cultures as diverse as Haitian, Columbian, Cuban, Asian, and Jamaican. An all inclusive cast of characters and a rich story history from the Vietnam War to the Golden Triangle. The DEA and ATF to the CIA and KGB Coldwar. From third world Afro-Caribbean Voodoo and Santeria to Japanese Bushido philosophy, this show was about the hippest thing happening in commercial Pop Culture entertainment at the time. Once the show caught on and took off, it was the first time people actually stayed home on Friday nights to watch television. My girlfriend and I were big club goers in the 80s. We stayed home quite a bit to watch it. Nothing would ever be the same in the visual medium of Television and Cinema. VICE was a TRENDSETTER.

Some of the cameos and performers include: Frank Zappa, Glenn Frey, Gene Simmons, Ted Nugent, Phil Collins, Bruce Willis, Bianca Jagger, Pam Grier, Ving Rhames, John Leguizamo, Dennis Farina, Ben Stiller, Alfred Molina, Liam Neeson, (rightwing wacko) G. Gordon Liddy, Lawrence Fishburne, Bill Paxton, Wesley Snipes, Miles Davis, Willie Nelson, Steve Buscemi, Helena Bonham Carter, Brad Dourif, Viggo Mortensen, Annette Bening, Melanie Griffith, George Takei, Ian McShane, Benicio Deltoro, Chris Rock, (Sonny’s wife in later epsiodes) Sheena Easton, R. Lee Ermey, and Julia Roberts.

On to the product.

Ever wondered what happened to Sonny’s pet alligator, Elvis? Individual SEASON BOX SETS are contained in a large imitation white alligator skin box with an imitation satin lining which looks hot on the shelf.

Fans that bought the individual SEASON BOX SETS complained about the double-sided DVDs being cheap, defective, or not playing correctly. Universal has always been a cheap bottom-line company. I feel your pain. Maybe Universal heard these complaints. Because THE COMPLETE SERIES episodes are on ONE-SIDED DVDs in the individual SEASON BOX SETS, and I haven’t noticed any defects. I waited. Sometimes it pays to be patient.

Fans also complained about the epsiodes not being cleaned up. TRUE. They look as if they have been transferred directly from the original broadcast tapes complete with grain and scratches in some cases. You won’t notice a lot of scratches, but you will notice some grain, especially in the night sequences and in the earlier epsiodes. The later espisodes are much better quality, probably because they were spending more money on the show (it shows) and taking better care of the tapes for syndication purposes when they knew they had a Hit Show. Still, the majority of the epsiodes look pretty good. Just pretend you’re watching this series like you were in the 80s and it’s almost unnoticeable. Younger audiences should act accordingly. (Younger audiences should also remember this series is not as realistic as the Cop Shows of today. MIAMI VICE was more like a cultural hyperrealism. Some of you will not buy into it. Again, in the 80s it was SEMINAL TV.) FOUR STARS for the Visuals.

The 80s TV sound has been remixed into Dolby 5.1. The volume is far too low and you won’t hear anything coming out of your rear effects speakers. I wish they would have done it in 2.1 stereo so I could use my Prologic and get some sound out of my rear speakers. If you view the episodes from your TV speakers, you’ll have to turn it up about 8 tenths to get a good volume. THREE 1/2 STARS for Sound.

The are only a few EXTRAS on the FIRST DISC of THE FIRST SEASON. A couple of documentaries on the fashion, sound, visuals, and impact of VICE. That’s all. The show pretty much speaks for itself. Individual DISCS from SEASONS ONE and TWO contain a written synopsis of the individual episodes and a list of cameos when you click on them in the EPISODE MENU. They disappear after SEASON TWO and you must look to the SEASON BOX covers for a synopsis of each episode (sans a list of cameos.) ONE 1/2 STARS for the Extras.

Overall this BOX SET gets FOUR 1/2 STARS because the Series was the first of it’s kind. And, the great sentimental value this holds for me personally.

If you’re thinking about buying at least the first THREE SEASONS, stay away from the individual BOX SETS and buy THE COMPLETE SERIES. SEASONS FOUR and FIVE contain some great episodes and you’ll get the 2 Hour Series Finale, FREEFALL. If you bought some of the individual SEASON BOX SETS, and think this SET is different, it’s not. Aside from the single-sided DVDs, which may or may not persuade you to sell them off, you don’t need to buy THE COMPLETE SERIES. Patient or wary fans will definitely want to purchase THE COMPLETE SERIES.

THIS WAS A MONUMENTAL TV SERIES. Warts and all!

ENJOY.

Great stuff…takes me back a while in time but very worth it!!! Brings back the reasons I enjoyed “Miami Vice”. Interesting to watch how it evolved from the very early days to how it is remembered now.

Sandler goes back to his juvenile roots with this one. That is not a bad thing in my book, I find Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore a riot. In this movie, Sandler plays Zohan. Zohan is a tough as nails Israeli intelligence operative who fakes his death because he is sick of all the violence in the Middle East. He goes to America to become a hair dresser because he wants everyone to have silky smooth hair. Not every joke works, but the silly situations come fast and furious. If one doesn’t get you, then maybe the next one will. Yes it is pretty stupid and juvenile stuff, but I found most of the movie amusing. If you like his first movies, then this one is for you.

Well, clearly, not everyone has the same sense of humor. You’ve got to walk Disbelief right out the door with “You don’t mess with Zohan,” but if you just need a fun summer flick and you have a very bent sense of humor, this could be it.

Story in a nutshell: Zohan (Sandler) is tired of the Israeli Army. He busts it to capture a terrorist, the Phantom (John Turturro) and the government merely trades the Phantom back. So–when his next opportunity to go up against his arch nemesis comes up, Zohan stages his own death and comes to America to become a hairdresser. He ends up falling for a Palestinian girl, Dalia (Emmanuelle Chriqui) and realizing there are worse things than his original enemies.

The humor’s just as juvenile as you would expect, but if you need a good, hard laugh–and you don’t mind gross, this is it. Be warned, you will never look the same way at hummus again!

This is a family movie, so you can buy (or rent it) without really flinching about dirty words or inappropriate behavior. Here are a dozen reasons why it’s OK and not so OK.

1) (Good) Steve Martin is perfect for these kind of roles. He remains the personification of the unflappable leading man that he’s portrayed in films like “Parenthood” and “Father Of The Bride.”

2) (Bad) Bonnie Hunt is wasted. She comes off well, but ultimately the kids and Martin have to carry the film.

3) (Good) The kids are likable, and, at times, very touching (Especially Mark/Fed Ex). None of them utter curse words or make smutty jokes.

4) (Bad) That the kids frequently flagrantly disobey house rules without any kind of discipline. (Although the pants and meat gag is the film’s best joke.) They plot and scheme sadistic traps ala “Home Alone” lite, and spend a fair amount of time saying how badly the parents’ work is interfering with their lives, never minding the fact that Dad’s new job is putting them into a higher standard of living then they’ve ever known before. (Tom Welling in particular.)

5) (Good) Nice to see parents who are willing to try to live their dreams, not shut everything else out of their lives and do so without resentment towards each other.

6) (Bad) Does anyone really believe you could practice a College football team in a back yard?

7) (Good) Despite having twelve kids on screen (OK, so Nora, the oldest, is living on her own), each kid gets some time to chew the scenery and does so without getting overtly cute or sugary.

8) (Bad) The DVD sports a serious lack of extras. Fox couldn’t fit a trailer on the disc but found space to promote the upcoming “Garfield?” Boo and hiss.

9) (Good) Ashton Kutcher playing right into type as Nora’s narcissistic boyfriend.

10) (Bad) I am getting really tired of all things Hillary Duff.

11) (Good) Any soundtrack that features 10,000 Maniacs and Fountains of Wayne is all right by me.

12) (Ultimate Good) The final messgae is that families can ultimately be happiest if they stay honest to themselves. Even in a movie as slight as “Cheaper By The Dozen,” it is a message that is usally ignored or, even worse, mocked by most current Hollywood fare, here it is movie’s strongest core statement. That alone makes “Cheaper By The Dozen” worth at least a viewing.

Turn loose some gratingly, implausibly screaming 13-year olds and you’ve got 75% of your flick. Steve Martin seems oddly miscast - there’s a few moments when he goes into his “schtick” that stand out like a sore thumb (like when Mom drives away to New York and he does “mad scientist Steve”). But basically this is a guy running his family into the ground because of putting his personal dreams before his kids.

Bonnie Hunt is likeable enough as always - Tom Welling seems pretty much wasted as a sulky teenager who gets picked on and goes through several changes of character for no reason. I’m heading home, Dad. I’m moving out. I’m going to stay. I hate you. You were right.

Welling doesn’t have that much screen-time and it seems every time he appears on screen he’s got a different personality. Hillary and Piper are tolerable. Ashton Kutcher is…well, Ashton Kutcher. He’s annoying but since we’re supposed to be rooting for the family against him, that’s not too surprising. he’s a bit too broad, though.

The movie probably pivots around the kiddies - Bill Mumy’s kid is cute, as is the Landis boy, a newcomer. They’re all annoyingly precocious but that’s pretty much par for the course with such movies. The supporting cast of non-family members don’t have much to do and truth be told, the film is busy enough with the family subplots as it is.

By the end the father’s learned a valuable lesson (so presumably have we), but one suspects most of the kids would be traumatized for life with such ludicrous parenting antics. Overall, CBTD seems to go a bit too far into the third-act pit of depression and tragedy before pulling it together for an upbeat conclusion.

A worthy rental maybe if you have some early teens in the house to “enjoy” the doozy predicament with.
